Do you need solutions for your music?

Because you are making art and because your art deserves to be best presented to the public.

As a maker, focus on the creation. Don’t spend your precious time on the technical and tedious side of the music production: mixing and mastering.
As a maker, the sound you (re)produce in your studio deserves to be as awesome in the outside world. For that you may need proper room acoustics.

I have the experience and the equipment for mixing, mastering as well as acoustics consulting. Let me help you.

Mixing

Your creation can (and should) be enhanced by a careful mixing. All sounds, vocals and instruments should work together for a greater goal: beautiful music.
Everything you recorded or designed should be properly heard and sit at its right place in the mix. I can certainly help you with that owing to my spectrally flat studio and headphones and years of training after my qualification from SAE Institute Amsterdam.

Mastering

Your music needs to fit the targeted genre and match the audience's expectation.
To that aim, the loudness and the dynamics (compression, transients, ...) should be adjusted properly. This done in the mastering phase. I use iZotope tools in conjunction with a great loudness meter.
Mastering is not only about making a song loud.
Mastering is also the stage where I embed the metadata you need in the audio file.

Acoustics consulting

In an ideal world, what you produce in your studio sounds the same anywhere it is played. To get closer to that objective, your studio’s acoustics should be worked out.
I solved different challenges when I built my studio and I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in that department. Spare the time learning all that, I can quickly offer solutions for your studio. I perform acoustic measurements and analyses to find out problematic frequencies and advise appropriate treatment.

Mixing

Methodology
  • It’s all about your vision.
  • Show me some reference tracks and I’ll take care of the tech side.
  • I perform translation checks so the result fits your targeted audience.
  • You get to listen to the last version of the mix before I finish the job. I you like it, good! If you think there are still some points to take care, give me your feedback and I’ll adapt the mix to your liking.
Requirements
  • I need all the stems of the channels present in your project.
  • The format should be .wav with preferably a bit rate of minimum 48 kHz (or 96 kHz) and a bit depth of 24 (or 32 bit).
  • Send these via WeTransfer or put them on your DropBox.
Price
  • Your music remains 100 % yours. I only ask for a flat price.
  • I charge € 10 per channel and per minute of music (excl.VAT)
  • For instance, for a traditional stereo mix, let’s say your music has 10 channels and lasts for 3’30” minutes, that’ll amount to 10 x 10 x 3,5 = € 350.
Formality
  • We agree on a due date.
  • You sign the quote.
  • When the job is complete, you get the invoice with the file(s).
Time frame
  • Typically, you get your mix within 3 days.
Output
  • One .wav file at 48 kHz – 24 b (unless otherwise requested).
  • Optionally all mixed stems for 15 % of the price.

Mastering

Methodology
  • I analyse a couple of reference tracks which I extract the target parameters such as loudness and dynamics.
  • I master the song according to the protocol that I've written on Youlean Loudness Meter’s blog.
  • I provide one version for streaming platforms and one radio or clubs.
  • I embed the meta-data you wish in the file(s).
  • I show you a report representing the loudness and the dynamics of the song for you to ‘see the master’.
  • I can perform the mastering for the one song or for a full album.
Requirements
  • Please provide the file of the final mix of your project .wav format.
  • Preferably a bit rate of 48 kHz or 96 kHz and a bit depth of 24 or 32 bit.
  • The mix should be low enough to give me the possibility to enhance it. Leave sufficient headroom. Typically -18 dB RMS and -6 dBpeak.
  • Stem mastering is possible but with a limit of 5 stems. Additional costs are to be expected.
  • Send it via WeTransfer or give me the link of your DropBox.

Price
  • Your music remains 100 % yours. I only ask for a flat price.
  • The standard rate is € 40 per song (excl. VAT).
Formality
  • We agree on a due date.
  • You agree with the quote.
  • When the job is complete, you get the invoice with the file(s).
Time frame
  • Typically, you get your mix within 24 hours.
Output
  • One .wav file at 48 kHz – 24 b (unless otherwise requested) for each version, with the metadata.
  • Additionally, I give you one report of the loudness and dynamics of your music (upon request the report of one of the reference tracks at no extra cost).

Acoustics

Methodology
  • Send me the dimensions of the room to prepare a semi-model of your room.
  • I come to your studio and proceed to several measurements.
  • Then, I analyze all that amount of data.
  • After pinpointing what is wrong in your studio,I look for solutions with commercial suppliers.
  • Everything is summed up in a report where you’ll find all the info for you to take easy and adequate action.
  • If requested I can come again to implement the solutions, such as hanging acoustic panels.

Price
  • I charge € 40 per hour of my work (excl. VAT).
  • Typically, we are looking at a price in the range € 500 - € 1500 (excl. VAT and extra costs for transport fares and construction material).

Formality
  • We agree on a due date.
  • If you agree with the quote, you sign the contract (in Dutch or English).
  • When the job is complete, you get the invoice with the report.
Time frame
  • I should be able to come to your studio within 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Measurements are usually performed within half a day.
  • I analyse and find tailored solution withing 4 week thereafter.
  • If you need me to mount the acoustic treatment, I’ll come ASAP for a one-day work.
Output
  • I will issue a detailed report divided in 3 chapters:

1 – The measurements (all characteristics, examples)
2 – The analysis (findings, details of each problematic points)
3 – The recommendations (solutions offered by different suppliers and associated prices)

  • We call each other to review the report together and I give you explanations and further advice.
